Ben Edtl

Position: Chief Executive Officer
A man with gray hair and a beard, wearing a blue blazer and white tie, smiling against a black background.

Ben Edtl is a seasoned business leader, entrepreneur, and public servant with over 25 years of experience building, managing, and turning around organizations across Oregon. In October 2024, Ben was appointed CEO of Umpqua Public Transit at a pivotal moment, just weeks before the agency faced insolvency. Under his leadership, UP was not only stabilized but fully rebuilt into a compliant, transparent, and mission-driven public agency.

Ben brings a private-sector mindset to public service, with a strong focus on fiscal discipline, operational clarity, and restoring public trust. A longtime advocate for government accountability and common-sense policy, he continues to work actively in Oregon legislative politics and public affairs.

Ben’s leadership at UP reflects his broader vision: that government should serve with the same urgency, efficiency, and integrity expected in the private sector.

Though his home is in the Portland metro area, Ben has developed a deep connection to the Roseburg community, which he now considers a second home. He travels to Douglas County weekly, investing time, leadership, and energy into a region he’s proud to serve. His commitment to UP reflects a broader dedication to helping rural Oregon communities thrive through strong, accountable public service.
